Caged Bird (Maya Angelou)
A free bird leaps
On the back of the wind
and floats downstream
till the current ends
and dips his wing
in the orange sun rays
and dares to claim the sky
But a bird that stalks
down his narrow cage
can seldom see through
his bars of rage
his wings are clipped and
his feet are tied
so he opens his throat to sing.
The caged bird sings
with a fearful trill
of things unknown
but longed for still
and his tune is heard
on the distant hill
for the caged bird
sings of freedom. |

자유로운 새는
바람을 타고 날아올라
그 흐름이 멈출 때까지
따라 떠다니고
날개를
오렌지 빛 햇살에 담그고
감히 하늘을 자기 것이라 주장한다
하지만 좁은 새장을
뽐내며 걷는 새는
분노의 창살을 통해서
볼래야 볼 수가 없다
날개는 잘리고
발이 묶여 있기에
목을 열어 노래한다.
새장에 갇힌 새는 노래한다
두려움에 떨리는 목소리로
알지 못하지만 언제나
갈망하고 있는 것들에 관해
그 곡조는
먼 언덕에서도 들린다
새장에 갇힌 새는
자유에 대해 노래하기 때문.
